Financial Literacy Month

#FLM2016National Financial Literacy Month, sometimes referred to as National Financial Capability Month, is a month-long campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the need for financial education; while encouraging collaboration and acknowledging the many and diverse industry contributions.

National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States in April in an effort to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. Jump$tart Coalition was the original promoter of Financial Literacy Month after taking over Youth Financial Literacy Day from the National Endowment for Financial Education.

Hill Day
Financial Literacy Day on the Hill is an opportunity for Jump$tart partners to highlight their financial literacy accomplishments on Capitol Hill. It’s a day to raise awareness on the importance of financial literacy and to network with the national financial education community. Hill Day is free and open to the public, and includes lunch. No registration or reservation required to attend. For more information, see

U.S. Sens. Joe Donnelly, Jack Reed and Tim Scott are this year’s honorary co-hosts.

Financial Literacy Day on the Hill was introduced in 2003 by the Council for Economic Education, Junior Achievement and the Jump$tart Coalition, with the office of U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka serving as the original honorary host. Over the years, “Hill Day” as it’s come to be known, has evolved from a small gathering to a public event that attracts hundreds of participants. The location of the event alternates, each year, between an office location on the House of Representatives side and the Senate side of “the Hill.”

This year, the event is sponsored by: American Institute of CPAs, Council for Economic Education, Financial Services Institute, Intuit Financial Freedom Foundation, SIFMA Foundation and The National Credit Union Foundation.

If you can’t attend the event, you can follow #FLHillDay2016 on Twitter or on the app.

Awards Dinner
Jump$tart’s Annual Awards Dinner brings together the financial literacy community's nationwide leadership to network, collaborate and honor accomplishments in the financial literacy field. The reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the awards program immediately after. For more information, see

This year's honorees are: Jump$tart Sustaining Partners, through their annual support of the coalition, in part, fund the event. Friends and Patrons provided additional support.
