Financial Fridays: Time to Update Old NEFE Resources

WHAT WE DO

The National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®) is an independent, nonprofit foundation that inspires educated financial decision making for Americans at every stage of life. For more than 30 years, NEFE has provided a variety of resources for consumers, educators, partners and researchers based on research and our expertise. All NEFE resources are available at no cost. Learn more at nefe.org.

WHAT WE OFFER

For educators, NEFE offers comprehensive, easy-to-use resources. All NEFE resources are research-based, noncommercial and completely free.

WHAT’S NEW

Budget Wizard. This fall a new online Budget Wizard for college students went live on NEFE’s CashCourse site. Users who log into the CashCourse site will find the Budget Wizard in the Financial Tools section. This online tool guides students through the process of building a customized budget that can be saved for future reference. For an overview watch a video tour of this new tool.

Financial Education Evaluation Toolkit. NEFE’s Financial Education Evaluation Toolkit – an online assessment management tool – updated and streamlined the companion Financial Education Evaluation Manual. The revised version includes theory and practice strategies to prepare for evaluation of financial education projects and programs, implement evaluation design and data collection, and utilize data for continuous quality improvement.

The manual is organized around four sections:

  • Part I. Introduction to Evaluation
  • Part II. Planning: Preparing for the Evaluation of Financial Education Projects and Programs
  • Part III. Implementing: Financial Education Evaluation Design and Data Collection
  • Part IV. Utilizing: Evaluation Data Use and Continuous Quality Improvement

For educators interested in research and best practices regarding financial education evaluation check out the toolkit’s Evaluation White Paper, written with the premise that future studies and program evaluations need improvement and that studies and evaluations can be improved by drawing on the research that has demonstrated effectiveness.

WHAT WE NEED

Evaluate Your Program. Design a financial education program evaluation using NEFE’s Financial Education Evaluation Toolkit. The toolkit has resources to help you, including NEFE’s Financial Education Evaluation Manual and a database of evaluation forms, templates and questions to get you started.

Out with the Old. Some HSFPP instructors have reported that they are still using the 2001 or 2006 HSFPP editions. If you are using the orange or blue big student book rather than the six smaller booklets please recycle your supply and order new materials. It’s easy and FREE! NEFE covers all of the costs to print, ship and deliver your materials. Just log in, place your order, schedule your delivery and the new booklets will be on their way.
