A Coronavirus Checklist to Help Keep NJ Residents s Informed

In an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19, Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order on March 16 that limited all recreational and social gatherings in New Jersey to 50 people or fewer. It also closed restaurants — except for takeout and delivery service — and other locations. On March 17, the governor announced additional restrictions that closed malls and indoor entertainment facilities. On March 19, he closed all social clubs and such personal care businesses as hair and nail salons and strongly discouraged the public from venturing out between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless it is absolutely necessary. Then on March 21, the governor increased restrictions significantly, ordering residents to stay at home except for necessary journeys, beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday. Nonessential businesses were to close until further notice.
