The goal of the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE) is to improve the personal financial literacy of New Jersey’s citizens by promoting the teaching of personal finance to people of all ages. The Coalition believes that all citizens of New Jersey must have the financial literacy necessary to make informed financial decisions.

The Coalition meets regularly in the Central New Jersey region and consists of over 500 members and representatives of government agencies, schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that provide financial education and related services. The Coalition is a nonprofit operated by an elected board of directors and executive director.

The NJCFE hosts a number of events throughout the year. In the fall, the NJCFE hosts its Annual Statewide Financial Literacy Symposium and Awards Luncheon – the premier statewide financial literacy event for forward-thinking discussions on financial literacy education – with New Jersey’s leading financial institutions and educators. Thanks to the sponsorship and generosity of the New Jersey Credit Union League, Jump$tart, Affinity Federal Credit Union and The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey along with other institutions, the NJCFE’s Financial Literacy Symposium presents the only statewide conference of its kind in New Jersey. Participation in NJCFE events offers Continuing Education Units as well as essential financial literacy strategies and lesson plans.

Each year at the NJCFE Financial Literacy Symposium & Awards Luncheon, an outstanding individual is awarded the Muriel F. Siebert Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestige award is named after Muriel F. Siebert, "The First Woman of Finance," and was personally presented by Muriel until her passing in 2013.

Additionally, the NJCFE awards the Mary O’Neill Financial Education Mini-Grant to an organization devoted to conducting financial education programs that benefits New Jersey residents. The mini-grant reflects an unprecedented commitment to the promotion of financial literacy statewide.

In the spring, NJCFE hosts a Teachers Teaching Teachers (T3) Seminar, an active, participatory conference designed to provide teachers with usable, practical, time-tested ideas that have been proven to work successfully. This conference is open to PreK-12 teachers and adult educators who work with financial concepts in their classrooms and training sites. NJCFE has provided numerous opportunities for teachers and trainers to learn personal finance content, and pedagogy. Our financial literacy symposia, financial education boot camps, and T3 conferences have been well attended. NJCFE partners have provided opportunities for teachers and trainers to learn about financial literacy lessons, full programs or curricula, games, and simulations.

NJCFE is committed to offering top quality professional development opportunities to those within the field of financial literacy. This includes individuals inside and outside the classroom as well as within the community.  Due to a collaboration with the New Jersey Credit Unions and Affinity FCU, the NJCFE has been able, and will continue to host monthly free webinars as part of our ongoing Financial Capability Upgrade Series.
